Welcome to My Yard Project!
I have embarked on a personal journey to improve and enhance my property in Pierce County, Washington. I am transforming my yard into a habitat for birds, bees, and other wildlife, to reduce pollution, beautifying the neighborhood, and protect wildlife.
My name is Kate A. Miner, and I am a writer, traveler, artist, and gardener. I believe in living a healthy life by seeking new adventures, learning from my mistakes, and greeting each day with optimism and a smile. In the fall of 2022, I learned about Green Stormwater through the Pierce Conservation District (PCD) and decided to be more proactive about my yard. Since I live on a busy corner in the Proctor District of Tacoma, I decided to share my journey with anyone interested. I hope you can learn from my experience and will share it with others. Together we can help protect our natural resources.
Whether you live in urban or rural Pierce County, PCD is a resource you should learn about.
There are nearly 3,000 Conservation Districts across the U.S., helping local people conserve land, water, forests, wildlife, and related natural resources. They are there to help implement best practices for conserving local natural resources, with one single mission: “to coordinate assistance from all available sources—public and private, local, state, and federal—in an effort to develop locally-driven solutions to natural resource concerns.”
District staff are available to meet with landowners to discuss options for improving and enhancing their property through water quality projects, such as Green Stormwater. They offer both technical assistance and some cost-sharing options for property owners all across Pierce County. If you are a landowner interested in water quality improvement activities on your property, learn more about them at PierceCD.org
